UAV offers enormous opportunities for surveyors. With the help of UAV, it is possible to carry out surveys and process and deliver surveying data in a timely accurate and safe way. Using UAV in surveying and mapping has many advantages.

(Time Saving) Traditional surveys can take days or weeks. With the power of UAV, a survey can be completed in hours and collected data and imagery can be processed on the same day. This means, less time in gathering data.

(Accessibility) It is easily survey those areas that are otherwise difficult or even impossible to access. For cliffs, rugged terrain and other areas where conventional surveying is challenging and time consuming, UAV offers a great advantage.

(Accuracy) UAV generate high-resolution orthomosaics and detailed 3D models of areas where low-quality, outdated or even no data are available. They thus enable high-accuracy cadastral maps to be produced quickly and easily, even in complex or difficult to access environments. Surveyors can also extract features from the images, such as signs, curbs, road markers, fire hydrants and drains.

(Safety) UAV eliminate the need for surveyors to explore unknown terrain and can be helpful in avoiding harder places.
(Contour) Depending on the project requirements, either the DTM or DSM model, with custom contour intervals, can be used to create a contour lines map, giving you a better understanding of the surface of the area shot by the UAV.

(Provide Accurate & Exhaustive Data) Total stations only measure individual points. One drone flight produces thousands of measurements, which can be represented in different formats (orthomosaic, point cloud, DTM, DSM, contour lines, etc). Each pixel of the produced map or point of the 3D model contains 3D geo-data.

(Less Disruption) Since data are captured from above, operations on site won’t be interrupted. It is also requires less manpower. There’s no need to place multiple specialists at a site in s time.

(Advanced Technology) UAV survey is an advanced technology compared to other survey method. The use of UAV has progressively increased in the last decade and nowadays started to be considered a standard research instrument for acquisition of images and other information on demand over an area of interest.

For our previous project, we had successfully using this UAV method for project such Development Infrastructure Project Under Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA) Proposed Development of The Northern Coastal Highway – Limbang. We as Licensed Land Surveyor was appointed by Regional Coridor Development Authority (RECODA) to carry out this survey. The tools and equipment used are Trinity F+90 PPK with Qbase 3D mission Planner, Sony RX1R mark 2, 42mp RGB camera and Pix4d Mapper software for post-processing
